Heavy duty flashlights are quality tools that are designed to work above and beyond normal conditions. While plastic models might be fine for a weekend Boy Scout camp or for messing around in the back yard, there are plenty of people who need a tool that can take a much heavier beating than a normal light is designed to take.
There are many different types of heavy duty flashlights, and it doesn't take much searching to figure out which companies are the most popular. One of the most popular companies that produces heavy duty flashlights is Maglite. Rayovac is another popular company, and there are several others who also have their own market share. Which company is the best depends on what your specific needs are.
Different companies also might have differing definitions of what exactly makes a flashlight normal versus professional. For some companies, it's a measurement of the strength and brightness of the light beam while other companies measure it by strength of the materials used to build it.
If you're looking for a sturdier model of flashlight, then in all likelihood the designs you find are going to be more expensive than the normal run of the mill plastic models available at most stores. Heavy duty flashlights also tend to be stronger and designed to taking a beating.
I'm personally a major fan of the stronger and heavier models because they're designed and built to last. Too often nowadays various tools are built with low quality parts to make them cheaper, and they break after minimal use. If you're willing to spend a little bit extra up front, the quality that comes with a well built flashlight is definitely worth it.

You are probably better off phoning the supplier and asking them. It might just be that the casing is a bit tougher.
