Liquid or powder detergent for cloth diapers? what kind do you use and what is your routine?

I just ordered online a bunch of diapers to try (bumgenius, fuzzibunz, flip and charlie banana) along with reusable wipes and the wet bag. I am new to all this, I haven't gotten them in the mail but I know I'll need a detergent. I have been looking and they are all expensive online, aren't you supposed to save money? how if you have to buy detergent for the diapers every month? I've seen some homemade on etsy but don't know. There are so many kinds it's confusing, I have well water (out in the country) and we do have a softener so It's soft water and I can't hang them outside to try bc of snow right now and it's very humid. (plan on a clothesline inside or something) I want to take good care of the diapers for them to last long but can you use a detergent that is sold commonly in stores? I have walmart, meyers, krogers, geyers. What kind do you use and what is your washing routine? what's best, liquid or powder detergent? anyone use biokleen one?

If you are using an HE washer, it will only take about a tablespoon of detergent to wash 12-18 diapers.
**Edit - I couldn't remember the one I've used most often -Allen's Naturally. No stains and doesn't seem to be harsh on the skin. My DD didn't have problems with Charlie's either. There is also a detergent sampler on Jillian's Drawers. I have been cloth diapering (and not using a service) for about a month now and haven't used a third of the soap in the package yet.

My routine is to wash at night right after dinner and I use a hot wash with a pre-wash and extra rinse so it takes almost two hours. Then I hang dry on a rack. (If you want to hang dry, bumGenius is not your friend since they are all in ones -- one thick absorbent pad.) I tend to do this every other day for my five month old.

And do yourself an enormous favor by purchasing the disposable liners! Lay them in the back of the diaper and when #2 occurs pick up what looks to be a napkin at the four corners and toss into the trash or toliet. No rinsing, etc.
